A LITTLE MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING AT…

MADE FROM MATERIALS WITH A PAST

I have a particular weakness for old windows, unusual doors, crooked branches, stained glass, forgotten furniture and beautiful bits of timber that nobody quite knows what to do with.

Rather than forcing these materials into a standard design, I often work backwards: find something interesting, draw around it and give it a new life. Some of the timber is locally grown, some reclaimed and some milled by me from trees grown on or near the land where I work.

The imperfections are usually the best part.

NO PRODUCTION LINE—AND NO INTEREST IN ONE

Everything is handmade, deliberately substantial and allowed to retain some character. Knots, curves, colour variations and tool marks are part of the finished piece, not faults requiring a small apology sticker.

Some products can be recreated fairly closely. Others will naturally evolve depending on the timber, reclaimed materials and mildly overenthusiastic ideas available at the time.

The aim isn’t to make hundreds of identical objects. It’s to make something that belongs exactly where it ends up.

HOW BESPOKE COMMISSIONS WORK

The process usually begins with a conversation. You can send me photographs, measurements, an awful sketch, a brilliant idea—or simply the sentence:

“I’m not entirely sure whether this is possible…”

From there, we develop the idea together. I’ll consider the space, materials, practical requirements and how you actually want to use it, before producing a design and quotation.

Dimensions, seating layouts, roofs, planting, storage, lighting, heating and unusual extras can all be adapted. The finished piece might be furniture, a shelter, a hideaway, a miniature building or something that refuses to fit neatly into any category.

This is usually where the trouble starts—in the best possible way.

A NOTE ABOUT “FROM” PRICES

Prices marked “from” show the starting cost for that particular design. Because the larger pieces are individually planned, the final price will depend on dimensions, materials, additional features, site access, delivery and whether installation is required.

Fire-heated designs must also be planned specifically for their intended setting, with the final arrangement and installation requirements agreed before the build begins.

You’ll always receive a clear quotation before any work starts. Delivery and installation are priced according to location and access—particularly if reaching your garden involves narrow gateways, steep hills or negotiating with an unusually territorial goose.

HAVE SOMETHING IN MIND?

It doesn’t need to be fully formed or particularly sensible. Send me what you have, and we’ll take it from there.

If you can imagine it, there’s a fairly good chance we can build it.
